EECO2 LAUNCHES ‘3CS’ INTEGRATED SERVICE

Posted on

EECO2 has launched a new service offer in order to better support clients to achieve their ongoing sustainability goals.

EECO2’s “3 Cs” proposition adopts a holistic view of carbon, cost and compliance, and uses a unique combination of tools, processes and regulatory expertise to tailor solutions to individual clients.

“EECO2 is a well-established business which works with most of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies” explained EECO2 director Keith Beattie.

“Our “3 Cs” model is an integrated approach which acknowledges that energy alone is not enough – risk-based analysis and careful evaluation of quality aspects provide opportunities to improve compliance at the same time as reducing cost.”

EECO2 cite the example of the implementation of the new GMP Annex 1 as the type of project which would benefit from their integrated approach: “the requirement for a holistic contamination control strategy (CCS) is the perfect opportunity for manufacturers to consider carbon and cost improvements whilst identifying and mitigating risk and improving product quality.”

CACR ANNOUNCES NEW ENERGY STANDARD

Posted on

The latest edition of Clean Air & Containment Review contains the announcement of the new energy standard; ISO 14644-16:2019 – Part 16: Energy efficiency in cleanrooms and separative devices.

The standard was published in June this year and gives guidance and recommendations for ‘optimizing energy usage and maintaining energy efficiency in new and existing cleanrooms, clean zones and separative devices’. It provides guidance for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of cleanrooms. Which is incredibly important to EECO2 and our clients. The standard, which can be found by following the link below, covers all cleanroom-specific features and can be used in different areas to optimise energy use. It also examines the comparison of cleanroom energy efficiencies, whilst maintaining performance levels to ISO 14644 requirements.

EECO2’s very own Keith Beattie played a crucial part in the creation of the new standard, leading our organisation forward in the involvement in quality standards. It is essential that our team keeps up to date with the advances in energy standards. EECO2 prides itself on the knowledge and experience of the team. We understand that clients rely on us to be well informed about any changes and improvements that are put in place.

In addition to the many content rich editorials included in the CACR journal, you will find EECO2’s advertisement for the ICCS – on page 19, just below the announcement for the new energy standard. For more information on the ICCS – click here.

NEW FEATURE: GUIDE TO ENERGY EFFICIENT CLEANROOM PROJECTS

Posted on

EECO2’s Keith Beattie and Matt Harris have worked together to produce a new feature for the August edition of Cleanroom Technology; ‘Guide to energy-efficient cleanroom projects’. This feature looks at delivering efficient and resilient manufacturing facilities in the energy intensive pharma industry.

“The energy use in pharma processes is significantly affected by initial design decisions, making it an excellent opportunity for improving lifecycle cost visibility at an early stage”

Matt tells how sustainability reviews are often left until the late stages of a design, so nearly everything is already in place and it is very hard to make any real changes. He goes on to describe how this affects the new buildings as they become a replica of what has come before… with only slight changes.

“Through EECO2’s experience of providing a range of services—efficiency workshops, survey, design—we see first-hand even relatively new facilities operating well below optimal levels. This highlights many of the issues with the standard construction process”

The piece discusses ‘old vs. new’, including why new facilities are often much less efficient than older ones and what needs to change for future design and build projects to become more energy efficient. One of the main suggestions is to keep it simple, with clear targets at the beginning of the project.

“The efficient and resilient facilities of tomorrow don’t need to emerge from science fiction neither do they require huge additional budgets. We have the technology and design tools to deliver them today at no significant cost premium”

CLEANROOM TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

Posted on

This May, the Cleanroom Technology Conference will take place in Birmingham’s National Conference Centre, on 21st-22nd of the month. EECO2 attended last year, but this year the team will be exhibiting (stand A11). In addition to the exhibition stand, Keith Beattie of EECO2 will be speaking at the event, presenting the theme of “Cleanroom energy reduction – possibilities for now and in the near future”. The event is so popular again this year, that it has now sold out. If you would like some more information about Keith’s talk, but cannot attend the event, get in touch.

This year’s conference will bring together leaders and innovators within the cleanroom and contamination control industry to take a closer look at industry trends, standards and future of cleanroom design and technologies. The Cleanroom Technology Conference will highlight best practice and regulations affecting both cleanroom design and cleanroom operation across various sectors for those working in controlled environments and cleanrooms.

The event layout, below, shows the exhibitors, including EECO2 on stand A11.

EECO2 will also appear in the Cleanroom Technology magazine this month with an article discussing real-time optimisation, demand-based control and fail-safe retrofitting. The article identifies the benefits of having an intelligent HVAC system and provides more information on the Intelligent Cleanroom Control System, ‘a brainchild’ of EECO2.

The ICCS has been nominated for the Cleanroom Technology Conference awards this year, for ‘Best Cleanroom Innovation’ and for ‘Best Exhibitor Product – Technology’.

If you want any more information on EECO2, Keith’s presentation or ICCS, get in touch with the EECO2 team.

NEW TWO-PART PAPER IN CLEAN AIR AND CONTAINMENT REVIEW

Posted on Download

A new two-part article has been published by Clean Air and Containment Review (CACR). The article, by Shuji Chen (EECO2), Andrew Butterworth (EECO2) and L. Jiang (University of Liverpool), appears in CACR issue 37 (Winter/Spring 2019) and is entitled ‘Air quality indices and cleanroom ventilation equations, and their application in a cleanroom HVAC system. Part one: theoretical considerations.’

This is the first part of a two-part paper, which summarizes current understanding of air quality indices and cleanroom ventilation equations and their use in a cleanroom heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The equations for air quality indices, including the contaminant removal effectiveness index (CRE) and the air change effectiveness index (ACE) are reviewed, based on particles rather than gases, and dispersion rates from personnel and machinery are examined. The cleanroom ventilation equations, together with the air quality index and the dispersion rate of particles, are then used to calculate the minimum air change rate (ACR) that is required in non-unidirectional cleanrooms to achieve less than the maximum specified concentration of airborne particles.

The second part of the paper, set to be published in issue 38, will describe the experimental work carried out by EECO2 Ltd.

Read the article.

Contact EECO2 about the article.

CACR is a quarterly journal and comes as one of the member benefits for members of CCN (Contamination Control Network), the society for cleanroom, clean air and containment practitioners. To join CNN please contact membership@theccnet.org.
