PROJECT BRIEFOur client was experiencing high HVAC energy demand driven by the original system design in order to meet product critical relative humidity conditions during summer months. Forecast energy cost rises of 17% per year were putting increased pressure on budgets.
The brief was to reduce the dehumidification energy demand without compromising operator working conditions and product quality.
This approach led to key recommendations to improve workplace conditions in addition to energy reduction opportunities, as highlighted below:
Achieve dehumidification with chilled water coil as opposed to desiccant wheel with steam recharge, avoiding significant replacement capital costs.
Rebalance HVAC system and reduce air change rates in spreading, scraping and grinding areas.
Reconfigure airflow and pressurisation regime, using existing plant, to reduce working temperatures in rack cooling areas.
Improved filtration strategy to reduce pressure drop and fan energy consumption.
Given the significant anticipated cost rises in energy (forecasted at 17% a year, for the next 3 years) and our projected increase in manufacturing capacity, we must do everything we can to reduce our energy costs.
